Microbiology (from Greek μῑκρος, mīkros, "small"; βίος, bios, "life"; and -λογία, -logia) is the study of microorganisms, which are unicellular or cell-cluster microscopic organisms. This includes eukaryotes such as fungi and protists, and prokaryotes. Viruses, though not strictly classed as living organisms, are also studied. In short; microbiology refers to the study of life and organisms that are too small to be seen with the naked eye. Microbiology typically includes the study of the immune system, or Immunology. Generally, immune systems interact with pathogenic microbes; these two disciplines often intersect which is why many colleges offer a paired degree such as "Microbiology and Immunology". Microbiology is a broad term which includes virology, mycology, parasitology, bacteriology and other branches. A microbiologist is a specialist in microbiology. Microbiology is researched actively, and the field is advancing continually. We have probably only studied about one percent of all of the microbe species on Earth. Although microbes were directly observed over three hundred years ago, the field of microbiology can be said to be in its infancy relative to older biological disciplines such as zoology and botany. GNU Free Documentation License Should I take biochemistry or microbiology during the summer ? Q. I 'm a nursing major. I already registered to take biochemistry next semester( a regular length semester) because microbiology is full. But, there is a chance that I can get into microbiology for next semester if someone drops. I know both classes are challenging, and require a lot to study. I want to know which class is more easier to take in the summer. Asked by Danou888 - Wed Dec 2 22:34:54 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. It depends on what you want your career to be if you ask me? because biochemistry is the study of life and the molecules that make it up...its like an advanced biology class...which is the study of living things which includes a variety of things such as yourself (humans) really interesting. and it teaches you alot of important information on life. mircrobiology is the study of life under a mircoscope which is really cool but its not that helpful in life. Its too advanced depending on your career of course. if your a radiologist or a scientist i think it would help you in different ways. if possible id take both because their both worth it. p.s-neither one of these is easy and if you get a easy class that means you got a bad teacher and it… [cont.] Answered by Lauren - Wed Dec 2 22:46:36 2009 How you can find recently published books of Microbiology? Marcel, I would go to the bookstore or the library and check out the self help section. If you can't find it in that section, ask the librarian or the person at the bookstore for help. I think the bookstore would have the most recently published. I don't know how long it takes the libraries to get those.
