A tool is a device that can be used to produce or achieve something, but that is not consumed in the process. Colloquially a tool can also be a procedure or process used for a specific purpose. Tools that are used in particular fields or activities may have different designations such as Instrument, Utensil, Implement, Machine, Apparatus. Evolution of tool useAnthropologists believe that the use of tools was an important step in the evolution of mankind. Humans evolved an opposable thumb — useful in holding tools — and increased dramatically in intelligence, which aided in the use of tools. Tools are the most important items that the ancient humans used to climb to the top of the food chain; by inventing tools, they were able to accomplish tasks that their bodies could not, such as using a spear or bow and arrow to kill prey, since their teeth were not sharp enough to pierce many animals' skins. A telephone is a communication tool that interfaces between two people engaged in conversation at one level. And between each user and the communication network at another. It is in the domain of media and communications technology that a counter-intuitive aspect of our relationships with our tools first began to gain popular recognition. Marshall McLuhan famously said "We shape our tools. And then our tools shape us." McLuhan was referring to the fact that our social practices co-evolve with our use of new tools and the refinements we make to existing tools. I'm trying to train for a mini marathon in October. I also need to lose about 50 lbs. Any suggestions on fitness equipment? I'm not looking for a diet, just fitness equipment suggestions. Thanks. Asked by Shay - Sun Dec 31 22:02:42 2006 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. I would get a manual treadmill. The neat thing is they can be folded and put away when not in use. Works great. A video camera with night shot will help. Those are the basics in equipment. Other equipment that can be use full is an emf meter and a digital thermometer. It is hard to explain how to hold an investigation through y-answers so i will suggest going to youtube and look up videos of ghost hunters, a show on sci fi where a group called T.A.P.S. conduct paranormal investigations. Q. I'm quite happy for my kids to climb trees but when they get to a certain height, it all gets a bit scary. What equipment would be needed to get them down safely and stop them in a fall. Does it require the whole harness, rope, belay device type climbing setup? Please list an inventory of items. Thanks guys. I guess I should just let them scale 400 foot rock faces as well. Asked by insx72 - Thu Jul 16 07:33:18 2009 - - 9 Answers - 0 Comments A. You don't need all the proper indoor climbing equipment such as ropes, harnesses, belays as you would need somewhere stable to put the rope and in a tree its unlikely that you will find that ! Climbing trees is safe as long as you're watching them to see if they are falling; if you really want to be over-safe then you could buy a boulder mat that is basically a mattress but for outdoor climbers. They range in price depending on which one you want but personally i wouldn't bother! Maybe you should take them indoor climbing to boulders climbing centre?
