What type of shop filtration should I get?
Q. I am looking to buy my boyfriend a filtration system for his wood shop. And I see their are air filtration systems or dust filtration systems. Am only looking to spend $300. Which one is more important?

Do breeding tanks need biological filtration or just treated tap water that you change often?
Q. I want to get into breeding fish and I've read the tank for the babies must be really clean. I thought of Biological filtration, but doesn't the biological filtration stop if there is no source of ammonia? How do you keep up the biological filtration if there are no fish in the tank?

A. Generally, breeding tanks have some form of biological filtration, but if you're doing daily water changes, that's not so necessary. However, I would still encourage biofiltration, because as the fry grow, they'll begin to produce more waste, and daily water changes won't be sufficient at some point. The easiest way to provide such filtration is to simply keep an accessory sponge filter in one of your main tanks at all times-- when a breeding tank comes into use, you can move that sponge into it, giving you a perfectly seasoned filter that will also serve as an early food for the fry (it will be coated with microfauna).

A. You'll need to call a plumber or the supplier on this. Unless you live out in the boonies, the area water has consistently tested cleaner than that produced by the filtration systems, some sort of plastic thing that actually decreased the water quality index so not a lot of people have them. It's like buying bottled tap water.
