What's a good topic for a microbiology research paper?
Q. The microbiology course I'm taking requires two research papers. I've already done one one antibiotic resistance, so that's out. What's another microbiology related topic that wouldn't be too hard to fill five pages with? Also, any tips on sources other than just "googling it" would be appreciated.

A. TOPICS: I. The use of microbes to clean up the environment If you go to PubMed, NIH's scientific literature database and search for environmental remediation AND microbe You'll come up with a lot of papers--at the top right click on "Reviews" and this will narrow the search to review articles. This should give you a good place to start with articles like: a. Recent advances in petroleum microbiology. b. Exploiting plant-microbe partnerships to improve biomass production and remediation. c. Transgenic plants to improve rhizoremediation of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) II. Do microbes exist on other planets? How to find them? NASA has been funding a lot of research into (a) what would life on other planets need to survive and (b)… [cont.]
